NUP MP Nyeko bows out of 2026 Race

MP Nyeko

Makindye East legislator Hon. Nyeko Derrick has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in the forthcoming parliamentary polls, bringing an end to a chapter of his political journey that he described as guided by “honour, respect, and trust.”

In a statement shared on his official X handle, Nyeko expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters and constituents, acknowledging the loyalty and belief they have shown throughout his years of service. He noted that the decision to step aside was reached after “deep reflection,” despite his campaign team’s strong confidence in securing another victory.

“I know this decision may not be easy for my team and supporters to receive, especially after our strong belief that we would once again win the Makindye East MP seat. However, after deep reflection, I have made the difficult decision not to offer myself for election in the coming polls,” Nyeko stated.

He emphasized that his withdrawal does not erase the milestones achieved under his leadership, but rather calls on the community to uphold the values of “unity, resilience, and service to our people.”

In a parting remark that underscored his reputation, Nyeko reaffirmed his integrity, declaring: “I remain the man of no corruption, no problems.”

His decision is expected to reshape the political landscape in Makindye East, a constituency that has often seen highly contested races. Analysts say his absence may open the field to new contenders seeking to fill the vacuum left by a leader who has prided himself on transparency and accountability.
