Veteran journalist and political commentator Andrew Mwenda has hailed business mogul Sudhir Ruparelia for his latest project he RR Pearl Tower, a 22-storey office block rising on the site of the former Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) headquarters in Kampala.
Mwenda, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), described the tower as “a classic case of beautiful architecture and great engineering.” He praised Sudhir for investing “99% of his money in this country, unlike many who suck it out,” positioning the billionaire as a model for homegrown investment.
The RR Pearl Tower forms part of the ambitious Pearl Business Park, a multi-billion-shilling project spearheaded by the Ruparelia Group. Strategically located on Yusuf Lule Road, adjacent to the Kingdom Kampala Mall and within the city’s evolving business district, the tower will offer premium office and commercial spaces, with cutting-edge facilities designed to international standards.
Sources within the Group indicate that the 22-storey skyscraper is not only one of the tallest in Kampala but also represents a major milestone in Sudhir’s vision of transforming the city’s skyline. The project is being undertaken by Vcon Construction, the Ruparelia Group’s in-house engineering arm, which has handled several of the Group’s landmark developments.
The Pearl Business Park, once complete, is expected to include multiple towers, retail outlets, leisure facilities, and ample parking. It is projected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and operation, while attracting multinational corporations and local firms seeking modern office space.
Sudhir’s investment comes at a time when Kampala is experiencing a surge in demand for Grade A office space, driven by the growth of financial services, telecoms, and international NGOs. Analysts argue that projects such as the Pearl Tower will help position Uganda as a competitive business hub in the East African region.
The billionaire philanthropist has long insisted that his fortune must serve Uganda first. His portfolio already includes some of Kampala’s most iconic developments, such as Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kabira Country Club, Kingdom Kampala Mall, and the recently announced Paradise Island Resort on Lake Victoria.
With the RR Pearl Tower, Sudhir has once again cemented his legacy as one of the foremost private investors in Uganda’s real estate sector an effort that, in Mwenda’s words, combines “great engineering with patriotic commitment.”
