The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is mourning the death of Brigadier General Bonny Wolimbwa, a respected officer and seasoned military trainer who played a pivotal role in shaping generations of soldiers.
Gen. Wolimbwa, who hailed from Sironko District, passed away on Thursday at Victoria Hospital in Kampala.
Family and military sources confirmed that he died of natural causes.
Burial arrangements are currently underway.
Until his passing, Brig. Gen. Wolimbwa served under the Joint Staff Doctrine and Training Command (JS TRADOC), the arm of the UPDF responsible for professionalizing and harmonizing training across the force.
Colleagues and trainees alike described him as a disciplined, selfless and dedicated mentor who instilled both skill and character in officers under his watch.
“This is a sad moment for the UPDF family, for JS TRADOC, and for all of us who had the privilege of passing through his hands. He was a seasoned trainer whose contribution will never be forgotten,” one officer said.
Gen. Wolimbwa’s death marks a huge loss to the institution he served faithfully for decades. His career was defined by a strong belief in discipline, professionalism, and loyalty to country values that remain ingrained in the soldiers he mentored.
As the UPDF and the country prepare to lay him to rest, tributes continue to pour in, underscoring his enduring legacy as a soldier, trainer, and patriot.
Fare thee well, Brig. Gen. Bonny Wolimbwa.
