NRM unveils Museveni’s 2026 Portrait: “Protecting the Gains”

Museveni's new campaign slogan

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership has officially unveiled President Yoweri Museveni’s new campaign portrait and slogan ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The portrait, launched by NRM National Vice Chairman Moses Kigongo and Secretary General Richard Todwong, carries the message: “Protecting the Gains As We Make a Qualitative Leap into High Middle Income Status.”

The unveiling signals the ruling party’s early mobilization as it seeks to extend Museveni’s leadership into another five-year term, covering 2026–2031. The portrait features Museveni in his trademark wide-brim hat and white shirt, against a bright yellow background symbolizing the NRM.

According to the party leadership, the slogan reflects NRM’s commitment to consolidating Uganda’s recent socio-economic progress while steering the country towards its Vision 2040 targets.

Todwong emphasized that the message underscores the need for continuity, particularly in safeguarding stability, infrastructure expansion, and wealth creation programs that have been rolled out under Museveni’s government.

Moses Kigongo noted that the campaign theme resonates with Uganda’s pursuit of a middle-income economy. He argued that the President remains the most trusted custodian of the gains made in security, economic reforms, and social service delivery.

The portrait’s release comes at a time when the NRM is re-energizing its grassroots structures and preparing for upcoming internal elections.

It also sets the tone for what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential race, with opposition groups already signaling readiness to challenge the incumbent.

Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, will be seeking another mandate to continue what his party calls the “steady progress” journey, framed this time as a leap into high middle-income status.
