Couple returns from Germany to Retire, Murdered same Night in Entebbe

David Mutaaga (69) and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62) were discovered dead in the early hours of Monday morning

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Entebbe, pointing to a possible family feud over inherited property as a motive behind the heinous crime.

David Mutaaga (69) and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62) were found dead in their home in Lugonjo Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, on the morning of July 7, 2025. The couple, who had recently returned from Germany after more than 30 years abroad, had just hosted a warm homecoming party the night before their bodies were discovered.

New revelations indicate that the killer likely gained access to the home by jumping over the perimeter fence. Close observation of the crime scene shows that the master bedroom window was broken, and the asbestos roofing above it had been tampered with, suggesting a stealthy break-in rather than forced entry through doors.

Traces at the scene point to a deliberate and calculated move. After carrying out the attack, the assailant is believed to have exited through the main gate, which was found unlocked. Footprints and other material evidence recovered from around the bedroom window and compound suggest that the killer may have had prior knowledge of the home’s layout and routines.

Surveillance footage from the home’s CCTV system has been retrieved and is now undergoing transcription and translation, according to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation. Several items of evidential value, including latent fingerprints, have also been recovered and are being analyzed to assist in identifying the suspect.

Preliminary findings suggest that the motive may not have been robbery, as no items of significant value appear to have been stolen. Instead, investigators are now considering that the killings could be tied to disputes over family inheritance, particularly the division of property left by a deceased relative. Sources indicate that tensions had recently escalated over this matter.

Complicating the aftermath is an ongoing dispute over the burial arrangements, as both of the Mutaagas’ children reside abroad and hold foreign citizenship. With the children unable to immediately return to Uganda, local sources say that disagreements have emerged over who should take charge of the couple’s funeral and property affairs.

The double homicide has deeply unsettled the normally quiet neighborhood of Lugonjo, where residents have described the couple as kind, humble, and generous. Their return from Germany had been celebrated with joy, only for it to end in unspeakable tragedy just hours later.

As investigations intensify, confidence remains high that the case is nearing a breakthrough. Forensic leads, including physical traces left at the scene and the analysis of security footage, are all pointing investigators toward a possible suspect known to the victims.

The motive—rooted in family tension and inheritance wrangles—is now at the center of the inquiry, as authorities work to deliver justice in a case that has left the entire Entebbe community in shock.
