The political landscape of Buwekula South was reshaped today as Dedan Mubangizi, a renowned businessman, philanthropist, and community mobilizer, officially launched his 2026 parliamentary campaign at a record-breaking rally held at Kyenda Town Council grounds.
Donning the iconic yellow of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), tens of thousands of supporters marched from all corners of Mubende District to attend what is now being described as the largest political gathering in the constituency since President Yoweri Museveni’s previous visit.
Organizers estimate the crowd reached over 100,000 people.
Mubangizi, who was nominated on June 18 from the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala, was flanked by a delegation of influential supporters from Kampala and other major towns, underscoring the broad appeal and financial muscle behind his campaign.
Adding political weight to the occasion was the presence of Nuwagira Michael alias Toyota, the Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a powerful movement with close ties to the ruling establishment.
His attendance was seen by many as a signal of Mubangizi’s growing stature within the party’s inner circles.
The event had the feel of a national celebration, energized by electrifying performances from pro-NRM artists including Eddy Kenzo and Jose Chameleone, whose party anthems stirred the massive crowd.
Addressing supporters, Mubangizi reiterated his commitment to transformative leadership rooted in service delivery.
“Our people deserve a new era of action. This campaign is not about words—it’s about results, and our record already speaks for itself,” he said to loud cheers.
Mubangizi’s campaign is anchored on three pillars: health, education, and wealth creation. In recent years, he has led major interventions in the constituency, including:
A free medical camp in Kibyamirizi parish that served over 10,000 residents.
Donation of a modern ultrasound machine, patient beds, and a fully equipped ambulance to local health centers.
Fundraising UGX 120 million for the construction of St. Mark Kayebe Secondary School.
Organizing youth tournaments that combined recreation with economic empowerment
Residents at the rally described Mubangizi as “a leader who acts before being elected,” with many calling him a servant leader with an unmatched grassroots connection.
As the 2026 general elections approach, today’s rally is seen as a turning point in Buwekula South politics.
Mubangizi, backed by a rising wave of youthful and rural support, is positioning himself not just as a parliamentary candidate, but as a reformer driven by compassion, integrity, and tangible results.
