Former EC boss praises Museveni’s democratic Spirit after his Nomination for NRM Flag in Nyabushozi

Jotham Taremwa with his supporters after his nomination

Jotham Taremwa, the former spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, has officially been nominated to contest for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag in Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura District, ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Taremwa expressed gratitude to the NRM and President Yoweri Museveni for upholding internal democracy through party primaries.

“I take this opportunity to thank the NRM and President Museveni for granting us the platform to exercise democracy through internal primaries,” Taremwa said.

He positioned himself as a unifying force, pledging to work for all residents of Nyabushozi regardless of their political affiliations. “Nyabushozi will find a leader in Jotham who will bring together all people, despite their political differences,” he added.

Taremwa promised to be a proactive lobbyist for government programs and a firm promoter of the NRM manifesto, especially in addressing pressing local challenges. “Our road network is poor. We also have issues in the education sector—there’s a trend where parents prefer educating their children outside Nyabushozi. I want to lobby to change that. We also face a scarcity of water and a lack of essential drugs in our health facilities,” he noted.

He vowed to intensify supervision of government projects and services to ensure that the people of Nyabushozi benefit fully from public programs.

Nyabushozi is currently represented by Hon. Wilson Twinomugisha Kajwengye, who is also a member of the NRM and is expected to defend his seat, setting the stage for a competitive party primary.

Taremwa’s entrance into the race underscores a growing trend of experienced technocrats joining elective politics, promising effective service delivery and closer engagement between government and citizens.
