Prominent Ugandan businessman and philanthropist Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fraudulent account impersonating him on X , the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The account, operating under the handle @RupareliaSudhi, has been posting content in his name, creating confusion among followers and members of the public.
In an official statement, Dr. Ruparelia categorically denied any affiliation with the account and made it clear that he does not operate or maintain any presence on X. “It has come to my attention that a fake account impersonating me has been created on X under the handle @RupareliaSudhi,” he said.
“I would like to categorically state that I do not own or operate any account on X.
Any communications or posts from that account should be disregarded as fraudulent and misleading.”
The businessman, who heads the expansive Ruparelia Group with investments in real estate, hospitality, and education, urged the public to treat any messages from the fake account with caution.
He called on users of the platform to report the impersonator’s handle to X so that appropriate action can be taken. “I urge the public to treat this account with caution and report it to the platform for immediate action,” he stated.
Online impersonation of public figures is an increasingly common tactic used by fraudsters to mislead unsuspecting followers, solicit money, or spread disinformation.
In many cases, such fake accounts are used to promote scams, tarnish reputations, or manipulate public opinion. Dr. Ruparelia’s swift response is therefore seen as a necessary and responsible move to protect the public and uphold the integrity of his name.
The fake account has already caused confusion among some users, many of whom assumed it was an official communication channel.
By publicly disowning the account, Dr. Ruparelia seeks not only to distance himself from any potential misinformation or scams associated with it, but also to raise awareness about the broader risk posed by digital impersonation.
He further encouraged the public, business community, and media outlets to rely solely on official statements issued through trusted news sources or the Ruparelia Group’s verified communication channels.
Dr. Ruparelia’s warning serves as a timely reminder for social media users to exercise due diligence before trusting information or engaging with accounts claiming to represent public personalities.
