A tragic scene unfolded in Namuyenje village, Mukono District, where a 35-year-old businesswoman, Hamidah Mutesi Nalule, was brutally murdered in what appears to be a violent fallout over a loan repayment.
Mutesi, a mother of two and resident of Bajjo-Seeta in Mukono, reportedly met her death at the hands of ElvisKatabazi, a 26-year-old businessman said to be a borrower in a money lending transaction.
The two had traveled together to Namuyenje LC1 on Wednesday, June 4, to allegedly resolve a financial dispute stemming from a loan worth Shs 18 million.
It is reported that Katabazi had mortgaged a house in Namuyenje as security for the loan. The pair were en route to meet a local chairman to mediate the matter. However, upon arrival, the chairman was unavailable.
Shortly after leaving the chairman’s premises in Mutesi’s white Toyota Fielder, registration number UBR 759V, the situation turned fatal.
A short distance off the main Namuyenje road, Mutesi was allegedly attacked and stabbed in the throat, sustaining fatal injuries.
She also suffered multiple cuts on her left arm. She collapsed a few meters from her car and died at the scene.
Eyewitnesses found her lying in a pool of blood, dressed in a black trouser and flowered black T-shirt. Suspected blood stains were visible on both the driver’s and co-driver’s seats.
A knife with a green handle, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered near the scene. In a chilling discovery, the national ID of the suspect, Katabazi Elvis, was found inside Mutesi’s wallet within the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested in a murder case vide CRB 728/2025 shortly after the incident and remains in Mukono Police custody as investigations continue.
Mutesi’s body was transported to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
This brutal killing has left the Mukono business community in shock and reignited conversations about the dangers associated with informal lending and private debt recovery.
