The Ugandan entertainment fraternity is in shock following the sudden death of veteran media personality and deejay, Michael Benjamin Owor, popularly known as DJ Bush Baby. His body was discovered in his private studio in Entebbe on the morning of Thursday, June 5, 2025, after he had gone missing for two days.
According to close family members, DJ Bush Baby had not been seen or heard from since Tuesday. Concerned about his sudden disappearance and failure to respond to calls or messages, relatives forced their way into his studio premises—only to be met with the grim discovery of his lifeless body.
The cause of his death remains unknown as authorities have yet to release the findings from a pending postmortem examination. Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
DJ Bush Baby, 50, was widely celebrated as a pioneer in Uganda’s media and music landscape. He began his career in the late 1990s with Radio Uganda’s Green Channel, now known as Magic FM, before extending his influence across East Africa.
His journey took him to Tanzania, where he played a pivotal role in establishing Kiss FM and later worked with East African Radio and East African Television (EATV). While there, he became known for producing and hosting popular shows like Uganda Central, Friday Night Live, and 5 Live, all of which helped elevate Ugandan music and culture to a regional audience.
Upon returning to Uganda, DJ Bush Baby worked with several top-tier media houses including Sanyu FM, XFM, Urban TV, and NXT Radio. At NXT Media, he rose to become the head of the creative department. Most recently, he had signed with XRadio in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was actively broadcasting an online show every Thursday from Kampala, maintaining strong regional ties through digital platforms.
In 2021, he suffered a serious domestic accident that left him with a fractured pelvic bone and internal injuries. He underwent surgery and appealed to the public for financial help during his recovery—an effort that saw massive support from fans and friends within the industry.
Beyond his on-air presence, DJ Bush Baby was revered for his commitment to mentorship and empowerment. He launched Salute the DJ, an initiative aimed at nurturing young talent in Uganda’s deejay community. The program provided aspiring DJs with mentorship, training, and platforms for exposure, helping to professionalize the industry and build the next generation of talent.
News of his death has triggered an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the region. Fans, colleagues, and artists have taken to social media to remember him not only for his contributions to the music scene but also for his humility, generosity, and lasting impact as a mentor.
As the industry mourns the loss of a true legend, funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
