Exclusive: Energy Ministry PRO, Solomon Muyita, flees to Canada with Shs.2bn

Solomon Muyita is now in Canada

Solomon Muyita, the principal communications officer at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, has fled the country under mysterious circumstances after reportedly failing to secure a promotion—and amid growing concerns over financial misconduct.

Muyita, who joined the ministry in 2021 after serving as Judiciary spokesperson, applied in 2024 for the position of Assistant Commissioner of Communications.

However, he was unsuccessful, losing the post to Dr. Patricia Litho, formerly of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

Following the failed promotion, Muyita’s presence at the ministry became rare.

“He never reported to work and we became concerned,” said a senior ministry official.

Eventually, it emerged he was not only absent from office but had also vanished from his home.

In a strange twist, his family members—including his wife and children—never reported him missing.

Sources have now confirmed that Muyita fled the country with his entire family and is believed to be living in Canada.

The circumstances of his escape have shocked colleagues and triggered further scrutiny.

According to a highly placed source, Muyita allegedly accessed over 2 billion of shillings meant for official ministry operations—including public relations work, field facilitation, and departmental coordination.

Instead of disbursing the funds as required, he reportedly hoarded the money in his personal account for months, despite growing demands from junior officers in the communications docket.

“The funds were meant to facilitate his team and execute PR-related activities, but Solomon kept it all under his control,” one insider revealed.

“He inflated budgets and withheld money even as activities stalled.”

The Ministry of Energy is one of the most well-funded arms of government—handling projects worth trillions—but is also among the most scandal-ridden.

Allegations of embezzlement, ghost procurements, and abuse of office have long haunted the institution.

Muyita had previously been the subject of an IGG investigation in 2022 following a whistleblower report that questioned his academic qualifications and the irregularities surrounding his appointment.

Authorities have not yet issued any official statement on his disappearance or the alleged misappropriation.

However, sources within the ministry hint at ongoing internal probes recover the funds.

No official at the Ministry was willing to speak freely when contacted.
