Journey to the Boardroom (JTB), a pioneering leadership program committed to transforming corporate governance across Africa, is set to mark a major milestone with the Grand Finale of its 2025 cohort. The prestigious black-tie event, scheduled for Friday, April 25, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, promises an evening of inspiration, celebration, and new beginnings in boardroom leadership.
Since its inception, JTB has positioned itself as a catalyst for inclusive leadership by equipping professionals with the skills and confidence to thrive in board roles. The 2025 cohort includes 35 dynamic leaders, 60% of whom are women, underscoring JTB’s commitment to bridging the gender gap in corporate leadership.
The Grand Finale will feature Her Excellency Lisa Chesney MBE, British High Commissioner to Uganda, as Guest of Honour. H.E. Chesney is expected to champion the economic and ethical benefits of diversity, noting in her prepared remarks that “companies with diverse boards are 43% more likely to achieve higher profits. Let your journey be a movement—toward just, inclusive, and visionary leadership.”
Delivering the keynote address will be Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, who will speak on leadership and corporate transformation. “Empowering professionals with boardroom readiness is key to driving sustainable business growth. JTB’s work is transformative,” she affirmed.
JTB Founder Janet Bugembe praised the resilience and growth demonstrated by the current cohort. “During our retreat, I watched these leaders lean into discomfort, challenge norms, and emerge ready to govern with integrity. Corporate governance isn’t about ticking boxes—it’s about stewardship,” she said, highlighting JTB’s focus on shaping leaders who will define Africa’s boardrooms for generations to come.
The event will also include the presentation of several prestigious awards, including:
Recognition Awards (1st and 2nd Runner-Up)
The MultiChoice Award
Task a Corporation Icon Award
Looking Ahead: JTB announced that applications for Cohort III will open on April 28 and close on June 6, 2025. Additionally, the event will witness the launch of the second edition of the JTB Magazine, featuring compelling alumni success stories and insights from boardroom veterans.
