Mugisha Kempaka, a popular TikToker from Western Uganda, has been arrested for allegedly spreading hate speech against the Baganda tribe.
Kempaka, a Munyankore, was taken into custody by the police’s crime intelligence unit on Thursday evening.
According to reports, Kempaka released a video on his TikTok page filled with sectarian talk, demeaning the Buganda Kingdom and calling for the extinction of the Baganda tribe.
He also urged President Museveni to take over the kingdom and be addressed as Kabaka.
The video sparked widespread outrage and concern among members of the public, prompting the police to swing into action.
Kempaka is currently being held in custody of Crime Intelligence and is expected to be arraigned in court to answer charges of peddling hate speech.
If convicted, he could face imprisonment.
