The serene shores of Lake Victoria will set the stage for a major agricultural milestone as Uganda prepares to host the 13th African Potato Association (APA) Conference at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo from May 25 to 30, 2025.

Themed “Fostering Climate Smart Cropping Systems for Sustainable Potato and Sweetpotato Value Chains,” this summit comes at a time when the continent is grappling with climate change, food insecurity, and the need for sustainable agriculture.

The event will attract hundreds of researchers, policymakers, farmers, and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

Organized in collaboration with Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), the International Potato Center (CIP), FAO, and other global partners, the conference promises a rich agenda. Delegates will engage in knowledge-sharing on innovations in climate-resilient potato and sweetpotato farming, policy frameworks, market systems, and scientific breakthroughs aimed at boosting productivity and farmer incomes.

The choice of Munyonyo as the host venue highlights Uganda’s rising role in agricultural research and development. With its modern conference facilities and lush setting, Speke Resort will offer participants an ideal environment for dialogue, learning, and collaboration.

This is the second time Uganda is hosting the APA Conference, marking the country’s growing influence in advancing root and tuber crop research. The countdown has begun, with just 31 days left to the anticipated event that is expected to shape the future of potato and sweetpotato farming on the continent.
