Retired Major John Kazoora, a prominent figure in Uganda’s military and political landscape, has died.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain scanty at the moment, but reliable reports indicate that Kazoora, a former FDC member has been sick for a long time.
Burial preparations are already underway.
The family is expected to release an official statement in the coming hours.
Kazoora, who served in the National Resistance Army (NRA) and later became an outspoken critic of the regime he once fought to establish, had in recent years been battling ill health.
Last year he made headlines after meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, a reunion that surprised many given their past political differences.
During the visit, Museveni reportedly forgave the ailing veteran and advised him to focus on his health rather than politics.
Kazoora, who once authored the revealing memoir “Betrayed by My Leader”, had also served in Parliament and held various leadership roles within opposition parties, including the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
He was admired by many for his courage and conviction, even as his political views often placed him at odds with the government he helped to build.
More information regarding the cause of death, final arrangements, and official tributes will be provided as details emerge.
This is a developing story.
