Two police officers attached to the Environmental Protection Police Unit have been remanded to Luzira Prison after being charged with assault and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.
AIP Hadali Keneth, 47, a resident of Mukono Municipality, and PC Katungi Alex, 45, a resident of Buziga, Makindye Division in Kampala City, appeared before the Kajjansi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The officers were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, contrary to Sections 219 and 364 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the charge sheet, PC Katungi Alex and other suspects still at large allegedly assaulted Nabukalu Maria on January 16, 2025, at Kitende Village, Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso District, causing her bodily harm. The prosecution further claims that the two officers conspired to unlawfully attack Nabukalu, thereby occasioning her injuries.

Following their arraignment, the suspects were remanded to Luzira Prison until April 9, 2025, when they are expected to return to court for further proceedings.
The case has drawn public interest, with human rights activists calling for thorough investigations into allegations of police brutality. Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the officers’ conduct or their suspension from duty.
