Gal Sport Betting on Spot for Deleting winner’s Account to Avoid paying Shs.15m

A dispute has erupted between Joel Muyanja, an online bettor, and Gal Sport Betting (GSB) Uganda, a licensed betting company for allegedly deleting his account and refusing to pay out shs 15.3 million winnings.

According to a formal complaint filed by Muyanja with the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, he had actively placed bets on GSB Uganda’s platform, staking various amounts, including live bets.

His account, registered under user ID 394048, had accumulated significant winnings amounting to UGX 15,336,433.36. However, instead of receiving his rightful payout, Muyanja claims GSB Uganda blocked his account and later deleted it without justification.

In his complaint, Muyanja outlined his betting history, detailing deposits of UGX 100,000 on February 12, 2025, and UGX 2,308,000 on February 21, 2025.

He placed multiple bets, some of which resulted in losses while others won substantial amounts, including a UGX 7.4 million stake that yielded UGX 15.1 million in winnings.

Despite this, GSB Uganda failed to process his payout and subsequently disabled his account.

In response to Muyanja’s legal pursuit, GSB Uganda, through Festo & Co. Advocates, claimed that his account had been flagged for fraudulent activities by their risk department.

The company asserted that it had the right to suspend or cancel customer accounts at its discretion, especially if fraud was suspected.

Their letter stated that Muyanja had been informed of the findings, given the opportunity to withdraw his deposit balance, and permanently banned from the platform. The firm further insisted that fraudulent winnings would not be paid out.

Muyanja, however, vehemently denies any wrongdoing, arguing that GSB Uganda is merely using fraud accusations as an excuse to avoid paying his rightful winnings.

He has called on the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board to intervene, seeking justice and compensation for his lost funds.

The case has sparked debate on the fairness and transparency of betting companies operating in Uganda.

Many bettors have come forward with similar allegations, suggesting that betting firms sometimes manipulate accounts to evade large payouts.

The outcome of this dispute could set a precedent for how such cases are handled in the future, particularly in regulating online betting platforms.
