In a shocking incident at the entrance of Parliament of Uganda, a young man identified as Benjamin Agaba set himself on fire on Wednesday morning, claiming neglect and lack of support from his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Agaba stated that he had been seeking help from the party offices for over a year without success.
According to eyewitnesses, Agaba shouted that his property had been vandalized by National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters and that his father was left homeless due to their political affiliation.
Feeling abandoned by his party, he resorted to this drastic action as a cry for help.
Security personnel and bystanders rushed to extinguish the flames and Agaba was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment.
His condition remains critical.
This incident has sparked debate about the responsibilities of political parties in supporting their members, especially those affected by political violence.
NRM officials are yet to comment on the incident.
The public awaits further updates on Agaba’s condition and the party’s response to his allegations.
