Police has clarified that six armed thugs have been put out of action in a dramatic operation at Acacia Mall, thwarting their plan to rob a Stanbic Bank client who had withdrawn a substantial sum of money.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident, stating that the assailants, armed with pangas commonly known as Bijambiya, had been trailing the client and planned to ambush him at the bank entrance.
“Our officers acted swiftly to neutralize the suspects who posed an immediate threat. Their plan was to rob a client carrying colossal sums of money, but our intelligence and rapid response prevented their scheme,” the spokesperson explained.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes at the mall as police confronted the gang. “We saw the police arriving just as the thugs approached the entrance. Shots were fired, and the situation was quickly brought under control,” one witness recounted.
The identities of the six suspects have not been released, but police believe they may be linked to other robberies in the city. No civilians were harmed during the operation, and the targeted client escaped unharmed.
Police have urged the public to exercise caution, particularly when handling large amounts of cash, and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
Further investigations are underway to establish the full extent of the gang’s operations.
