Six armed robbers were shot dead

Police has shot dead four gun-wielding robbers during a daring attempt to rob Stanbic Bank at Acacia Mall on Monday evening.

A fifth suspect, critically injured in the confrontation, is under police custody.

The suspects, armed and prepared for a violent heist, were neutralized in a swift and well-coordinated operation by law enforcement.

Police confirmed that the group was on the watch list and linked to a series of robberies across the city.

“The suspects were known to us and have been under surveillance for some time. Today’s operation was a culmination of that effort, and we are relieved no civilians were harmed,” Police said in a brief statement.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as gunfire erupted within the mall. One witness, who chose to remain anonymous, said, “We heard loud shots and immediately took cover. The police acted very quickly.”

The fifth suspect, currently receiving medical treatment, is in critical condition and under armed guard. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the suspects, but investigations are ongoing to determine their connections to other criminal activities.

This foiled robbery highlights ongoing challenges with organized crime in Kampala.

Police have urged citizens and businesses to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
