RIP: Hon Ssegirinya

While eulogizing the late Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya at Parliament today, Hon. Abdu Katuntu revealed that the government spent approximately about 1 billion on the medical treatment of the Kawempe North MP.

According to Hon. Katuntu, who moved the motion to honor the deceased, the government spared no effort in ensuring Hon. Ssegirinya received the best medical care.
Over the time, the late MP was airlifted several times for advanced treatment abroad, including in Nairobi and the Netherlands.
During his battle with illness, Hon. Ssegirinya also sought medical attention at multiple facilities within Uganda.
Among the hospitals he visited were Nsambya, Mulago, and Lubaga Hospital, where he ultimately passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The revelation highlights the critical medical journey undertaken by the late MP, who fought valiantly to recover.
Despite these efforts, Hon. Ssegirinya succumbed to his illness, leaving the nation in mourning.
Hon. Ssegirinya, who was widely known for his strong advocacy for social justice and relentless dedication to his constituents, has left an indelible mark on Ugandan politics.
His burial is scheduled for Sunday, January 12, at his ancestral home in Masaka, following tributes and prayers at Parliament, Mbogo Mosque in Kawempe, and his Kasangati home.
The outpouring of grief and tributes from across the country underscores the impact of Hon. Ssegirinya’s leadership. His ability to connect with ordinary citizens and his commitment to improving lives will forever be remembered.
As Parliament and the nation bid farewell to a remarkable leader, Hon. Abdu Katuntu’s remarks serve as a reminder of the lengths to which the government went to ensure Hon. Ssegirinya received the care he needed.
