Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, has passed away.
His death was confirmed in an official statement by Lubaga Hospital, where he had been under medical care.
According to the statement, Hon. Ssegirinya succumbed to his illness on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 12:10 pm, despite the dedicated efforts of the hospital’s medical team to ensure his recovery.
The hospital’s management expressed their profound condolences to his family, the people of Kawempe North, and members of the Parliament of Uganda.
“Hon. Ssegirinya was a passionate and committed representative of his constituents,” the statement read, adding that the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated servant of the people.
Known for his charismatic personality and advocacy for social justice, Hon. Ssegirinya rose to prominence as a fearless voice for his constituents. Often referred to as “Mr. Updates” for his constant social media engagement, he championed causes such as healthcare access, education, and infrastructure improvement in Kawempe North.

Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among, along with Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, is expected to lead a parliamentary condolence session in his honor.
