The Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), John Rujoki Musinguzi, recently shared a deeply personal account of his struggles and ultimate redemption, emphasizing the transformative power of faith and family.
Speaking at the launch of “Grace Springs With Focus on The Family,” a campaign to combat domestic violence held at the African Bible University in Lubowa, Musinguzi candidly reflected on past mistakes and his path to healing.
Musinguzi revealed that early in his marriage, he found himself entangled in an extramarital relationship with a colleague.
This indiscretion, he admitted, began in the third year of his union and escalated over time, silently threatening the foundation of his marriage. Reflecting on those years, he described a profound sense of loss and regret.
“I reached a point where I felt completely lost, unable to reconcile my actions with the man I thought I was,” Musinguzi said. “I realized I could no longer live a double life and had to confront my failings.”
His turning point came when he turned to his faith. He recounted a moment of spiritual reckoning, where he felt compelled to renounce his immoral behavior and seek forgiveness. “God reminded me that I was His son and urged me to make things right. That awakening helped me let go of the sin and impurity that had consumed my life for years,” he explained.
Musinguzi also admitted that his actions had created trust issues in his marriage, as he often unfairly burdened his wife with doubts and insecurities. However, his journey of repentance and renewed faith helped him rebuild his relationship and rediscover the joy within his family.
“I finally surrendered everything to Jesus, and the transformation has been extraordinary. My family is now a source of immense happiness, and I can’t begin to describe the peace we now enjoy,” he shared.
Beyond his personal life, Musinguzi’s professional achievements have been equally remarkable. Under his leadership, the URA surpassed its revenue collection targets in the 2022/2023 fiscal year, amassing UGX 16.4 trillion—an excess of UGX 236.8 billion above the set target. He has also overseen a 33.7% expansion in the tax base, registering over 880,000 new taxpayers in the same year.
Born in Rubirizi in 1973, Musinguzi holds degrees in Mathematics and Computing, and his tenure as URA Commissioner General since 2020 reflects a leader deeply committed to both professional excellence and personal integrity.
