The staff of Kampala Parents’ School (KPS) have officially ended their sit-down strike after meeting with Sudhir Ruparelia, the chairman of the Ruparelia Group and owner of the school.
The strike, which began on Friday last week, had disrupted school operations, raising concerns among parents and guardians.
In a letter dated November 26, 2024, staff representatives informed parents that their grievances had largely been addressed following discussions with key stakeholders, including Sudhir Ruparelia.
According to the letter, the meetings provided solutions for short-term issues and established long-term strategies to address deeper concerns.
“We, the staff of Kampala Parents’ School 2004, hereby inform you, our dear parents, that the sit-down strike that has been going on since Friday last week has come to an end,” the letter stated.
The intervention by Sudhir Ruparelia, a key figure in the school’s ownership and management, played a crucial role in resolving the standoff.
Staff members had been advocating for better working conditions, which they believe will enable them to deliver quality education to students more effectively.
As a result of the resolution, normal learning activities are set to resume on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Students will also sit for their end-of-term examinations on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024.
In their communication, the staff expressed gratitude to parents and guardians for their patience and support throughout the strike. They reassured parents of their renewed dedication to teaching and nurturing the children.
“We can only thank you enough by teaching and nurturing your children even more,” the letter, signed by staff representatives: Chrispus, Mwijukye Ambrose, and Orishaba Onesmus, noted.
The resolution of the strike comes as a relief to parents, who were worried about the impact of the disruption on their children’s education. The meeting with Sudhir Ruparelia highlights the importance of collaboration between school owners, management, and staff in maintaining a conducive learning environment.
The quick resolution of the strike underscores the leadership and responsiveness of the Ruparelia Group, which has long been associated with education excellence in Uganda. With classes set to resume and examinations scheduled, all stakeholders are optimistic about finishing the term on a positive note.
Kampala Parents’ School continues to emphasize its commitment to quality education and a harmonious relationship between staff and management, ensuring students’ academic success remains a top priority.
