In an event marking both personal joy and political significance, Davis Akampulira, the Ugandan youth leader who has garnered international recognition and the affectionate nickname “Putin’s African son,” is set to wed this Saturday at the prestigious Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The wedding promises to be a distinguished affair, drawing guests from Uganda’s political elite, top religious leaders, international youth leaders, and key diplomatic figures.
Akampulira first made headlines earlier this year when he met Russian President Vladimir Putin during the World Youth Festival in Sochi. His bold advocacy for African issues in global politics left a lasting impression on President Putin, earning him a follow-up private meeting at the Kremlin in Moscow, where Putin referred to him as “my African son.” Akampulira’s discussions with the Russian leader have focused on strengthening Uganda-Russia relations, advocating for youth empowerment, and expanding economic opportunities for young Ugandans, particularly through the Ugandan coffee industry.
