In the ongoing investigation surrounding socialite Don Nasser’s alleged criminal activities, a new and disturbing figure has emerged — Promise Gatete, commonly known by her alias Chichi.
At just 19 years old, Chichi played a key role in an underground network that allegedly exploited young girls, using the allure of social media to target vulnerable students from some of Uganda’s elite international schools.
Promise Gatete, a young woman from Bulindo, Kira Division, may appear unassuming, but her involvement in this high-profile scandal paints a different picture.
She has been revealed as the person behind a series of disturbing operations that preyed on young girls through platforms like Snapchat.
At 19, she was the connection between these minors and Don Nasser real names Nasser Nduhukire, a well-known socialite in Kampala who is now facing serious charges related to the exploitation and abduction of underage girls.
Chichi, as she is known on the streets and online, allegedly targeted young girls from international schools, where students often have unrestricted access to smartphones and social media.
These schools, known for their liberal environment, became fertile hunting grounds for Chichi, who used her charm and influence to befriend and manipulate her victims.
By building trust on platforms like Snapchat, she was able to lure the girls into a dangerous web, ultimately delivering them into the hands of Don Nasser.
Investigations have revealed that Promise Gatete operated as a pimp for Don Nasser, systematically recruiting young girls under the guise of friendship. Once trust was established, she facilitated meetings between Nasser and these minors, with the most high-profile case involving a 16-year-old secondary school student.
According to reports, Chichi first introduced the victim to Nasser at Aura Bar in Kololo on May 3, 2024. What seemed like an innocent introduction quickly turned into a nightmare for the victim, who was subsequently held captive for three days.
Reports suggest that Nasser paid Chichi between shs 500,000 and 800,000 upon delivery of his ‘prey’.
The victim’s family only became aware of the ordeal after intercepting phone calls between their daughter and Nasser.
When the situation unraveled, Nasser fled the country, first to the Democratic Republic of Congo and later to Kenya, where he was arrested on September 21, 2024.
Throughout this entire process, Chichi played a central role as the intermediary, orchestrating meetings and facilitating the interactions that would later lead to Nasser’s legal troubles.
Reports also suggest that Nasser supplied the young girls with drugs, further aggravating the already disturbing nature of the crimes.
Parents of the victim have expressed deep frustration and anger, particularly given the involvement of Chichi in bringing their daughter into this criminal underworld. The father of the minor, a high-ranking security officer, has vowed to see that Nasser and his accomplices face justice.
Following Nasser’s arrest in Nairobi, both he and Chichi were remanded to Luzira Prison pending trial. They are set to return to court on October 8, 2024, where Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayiizi will monitor the ongoing investigation.
While both Nasser and Chichi have denied the charges, the legal battle ahead could expose further details of their operation.
If found guilty, the maximum penalty for the crime they are accused of — child trafficking and exploitation — is death.
The role of Promise Gatete in this case underscores the growing concern over how social media platforms like Snapchat can be used to exploit young people.
By focusing on international schools where children are often more independent and have unrestricted access to smartphones, Chichi was able to create a pipeline that funneled minors into dangerous situations.
The promise of friendship, status, or even material gains can blind these young victims to the reality of what awaits them.
With her ability to manipulate these girls through digital platforms, Chichi’s role as a pimp becomes emblematic of how predators can operate in today’s hyper-connected world.
Promise Gatete alias Chichi is no longer just a 19-year-old from Kira — she now stands at the center of a major criminal investigation that could have lasting implications for Uganda’s legal and social fabric. Her actions have exposed the vulnerability of young people in the digital age, raising important questions about how such exploitation can be prevented in the future.
As the case heads to trial, both Nasser and Chichi’s fates hang in the balance, but one thing remains clear: this case has unveiled a dark side to the world of social media, and the repercussions will be felt far beyond the courtroom.
