The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), led by Brigadier Henry Isoke, in collaboration with the Uganda Police and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), has taken a significant step in the fight against corruption by arraigning Tusubira Sam, a State Attorney at the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
Tusubira faces 16 counts of corruption, highlighting the government’s continued effort to root out corrupt practices within its ranks.
According to the charges presented before the Anti-Corruption Court, Tusubira Sam allegedly solicited a bribe amounting to UGX 100 million from a plaintiff.
The plaintiff had initiated a legal case against the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General, concerning the irregular cancellation of his land title.
The accused, while representing the government in court, is said to have demanded the bribe to facilitate the plaintiff’s compensation process.
Investigations revealed that by the time of his arrest, Tusubira had already received approximately UGX 43 million from the victim.
This arrest underscores the government’s determination to hold public officials accountable for corrupt practices that undermine public trust and the integrity of government institutions.
Tusubira Sam has been remanded until August 19, 2024, pending further proceedings. The case has drawn significant public interest, as it underscores the ongoing challenges in tackling corruption within Uganda’s judicial and governmental systems.
