Following the Tuesday, Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting chaired by NRM chairman Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House Entebbe, he strongly rejected the list submitted by the Government Chief Whip and instead opted for a comprehensive overhaul.
The list composed of proposed names to fill gaps on the Committees of Parliament.
But the President who has lately warned of severe action against the corrupt turned a deaf ear for Government Chief Whip Hon Hamson Obua’s proposed names.
CECA’s discussion was prompted by the recent arrest of three members of the Parliament’s budget committee; Cissy Namujju, Paul Akamba and Yusuf Mutembuli who were caught seeking a bribe from the Uganda Human Rights Commission in exchange for increasing its budget for the financial year.
In response to these events, President Museveni ordered the disbanding of NRM MPs heading parliamentary committees.
He emphasized that he would appoint new committee heads who are not corrupt.
The CEC unanimously resolved to appoint new members to the various sessional committees.
However, the appointment of the parliamentary leadership of the ruling NRM party has been deferred for two weeks to ensure transparency.
