Osbert Ogaba, a well-known lawyer in Kampala and a Munyankore by tribe, faced a dramatic eviction from his rented home in Muyenga, a high-end suburb of the city.

The eviction was carried out by court bailiffs accompanied by police officers led by Robert Agaba from Kabalagala Police Station.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the bailiffs, armed with a court order, arrived at Ogaba’s residence.

Ogaba initially denied them access, questioning whether they had the requisite permission from the Local Council 1 (LC1) chairman of the area.

Despite his protests, the bailiffs forcibly entered the property.

Witnesses reported that the bailiffs ruthlessly broke into the home, disregarding Ogaba’s objections.

They proceeded to throw all of Ogaba’s possessions, including expensive furniture, gadgets, and electrical appliances, out of the house.

Among those evicted were Ogaba’s family members, including a young baby only a few months old.

The court order presented by the bailiffs stated that Ogaba had deliberately refused to pay rent for the past seven months, resulting in an accumulated debt of UGX 26 million. This substantial arrear prompted the legal action and subsequent eviction.

Neighbors and local residents expressed shock and dismay at the harsh manner in which the eviction was conducted. “It was heartbreaking to see a family, especially with a young baby, being thrown out like that,” commented a witness.

Efforts to reach Osbert Ogaba for a comment were unsuccessful. However, sources close to him indicate that he is considering legal action against the eviction, which he deems unjust and improperly executed.
