Dr. Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, convened a significant meeting with over a hundred non-judicial staff members on Tuesday.
The attendees included Secretaries, Statisticians, Office Supervisors, Economists, Systems Administrators, Assistant Records Officers, Assistant Accountants, Drivers, Process Servers, and Office Attendants.
In his address, Dr. Bigirimana commended the hard work and dedication of the staff, attributing much of the Judiciary’s success to their efforts. “Your contributions have been instrumental in achieving our goals,” he stated, emphasizing the critical role played by non-judicial staff.
Dr. Bigirimana also spotlighted the Judiciary’s innovative approach to staff health and wellness, encouraging participation in the aerobics program held every Wednesday and Friday at the Judiciary Headquarters. “A healthy workforce is a productive workforce,” he noted.
Career growth opportunities within the Judiciary were another focal point. Dr. Bigirimana stressed the importance of conducting needs assessments to identify training requirements and urged staff to complete their appraisal forms to facilitate performance evaluations.
He reiterated the Judiciary’s core values of integrity, accountability, and professionalism, urging staff to adhere strictly to these principles.
He also discussed the importance of good character and a results-oriented approach to work, reminding staff of the importance of adhering to transfers, regular attendance, effective time management, and maintaining a culture of respect and confidentiality.
He strongly discouraged corruption, rudeness, and fraud, calling for excellent customer care and respect towards Judicial officers.
Addressing concerns about the transition to the Judiciary Service, Dr. Bigirimana informed staff that he had communicated with the Attorney General and promised to provide updates upon receiving a response.
Ms. Tumwine N. Apophia, Commissioner Human Resource Management, also addressed the meeting, responding to concerns about the transition.
She encouraged staff whose positions were abolished under the Approved Judiciary Service Structure to seek assistance from her office if they were qualified and interested, assuring them that they would not be disadvantaged.
Ms. Tumwine advised staff to prepare thoroughly for interviews during the transition and emphasized the importance of pursuing relevant fields or courses for further training to enhance performance.
She also recommended requesting study leaves when further studies impact their everyday work.
The meeting was moderated by Principal Records Officer, Mr. Jacob Gwom, and served as a platform for addressing staff concerns and outlining the way forward for the Judiciary. Dr. Bigirimana’s leadership and vision continue to guide the Judiciary towards greater efficiency and effectiveness.
