The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has praised Dr. Silver Mugisha, Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), for his outstanding work in developing St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Parish.

Dr. Mugisha, serving as the parish treasurer, led the construction of a 1000-seater church and raised the necessary funds for the project. He also built the church wall fence, which protected the church’s land from being taken over by others.

During the parish’s 10th-anniversary celebration, Archbishop Ssemogerere highlighted Dr. Mugisha’s crucial role in the parish’s growth. He noted that due to these efforts, the parish has seen significant increases in baptisms, confirmations, and holy matrimony. Parishioners are also more involved in community service and social justice activities.

The Archbishop also commended the parishioners for their dedication and commitment to their faith despite facing many challenges. He recognized the efforts of parish leaders, including Rev. Fr. Remigius Semujju, the current Parish Priest, and former parish priest Rev. Fr. Denis Warren Kibalama, for their work in building a vibrant and active community.

Archbishop Ssemogerere announced that Pope Francis has declared May 26 as Children’s Day, to be celebrated annually in the church. He urged parents to be responsible in raising their children and called for careful driving as children return to school.

Dr. Mugisha, the guest of honor, emphasized the importance of clear leadership within the church to effectively address challenges. He shared that their approach was to identify problems first and then work together to solve them.

“Our approach was to create solutions by first identifying problems. We started with what little we had and created a sense of urgency. As we began working, people were inspired to contribute because they saw progress being made,” Dr. Mugisha said.

Dr. Mugisha reflected on his long-standing connection to the parish, stating, “My NWSC story started at St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Church 10 years ago. My commitment to this church is deeply personal.”

He and his wife, Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha, highlighted the power of collaboration and conscious leadership in building a vibrant community. Dr. Mugisha emphasized NWSC’s commitment to working with communities and giving back through corporate social responsibility (CSR) and other partnerships.

“I believe in the power of collaboration. No business can thrive without communities and government. At NWSC, teaming up with communities and giving back has been our daily business,” Dr. Mugisha stated.

Dr. Mugisha also made a contribution towards completing the church project, demonstrating his dedication to the community.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya, supported the Archbishop’s praise of Dr. Mugisha’s role in community development. She commended Dr. Mugisha and his wife for their contributions to various development projects in both their home district of Bushenyi and in Kampala, highlighting the significant impact of their efforts. The IGG also made a contribution towards the church’s completion.

Fr. Remigius Semujju, the Parish Priest, discussed the parish’s expansion, including the establishment of four sub-parishes and income-generating projects. He noted that St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Church has grown significantly since its inception, largely due to Dr. Mugisha’s contributions.

The celebration was attended by various dignitaries, including Area MP Aloysius Mukasa and IGG Beti Kamya. NWSC’s Nateete Branch also set up a mobile help desk to address customer concerns, showcasing their commitment to customer service.

St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish Mutundwe was consecrated by the late Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga on January 26, 2014.
