With a heavy heart, Didas Kateihwaho, a Kampala astute businessman recounted the final moments of his son Patrick Muhumuza Kateihwaho at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish in Ntinda, Kampala on Monday.
The shock of learning about Patrick’s sudden demise on a Friday evening last week still resonated deeply within him.
Patrick’s tragic slip and fall in the bathroom of his Minister’s Village residence in Ntinda, a suburb of Kampala, culminated in his untimely passing at the Kampala Independent Hospital.
“At 9 p.m. that fateful Friday, Dr. Aisha Ssekalala arrived at our home, her expression somber. Sensing something amiss, I inquired, only to be met with silence before the heartbreaking revelation of Patrick’s passing,” Mr. Kateihwaho recalled. “It was incomprehensible. Just two hours prior, Patrick had called, his voice brimming with life. To receive such devastating news mere hours later was beyond belief.” The deceased’s dad told mourners.
Addressing a solemn congregation, Mr. Kateihwaho revealed a vulnerability seldom seen, admitting that he had only shed tears twice in his adult life—once upon losing his brother, and now, with son tragic demise.
The business community of Kampala gathered at St Lwanga Catholic church to mourn the loss of one of its most esteemed figures, Patrick Kateihwaho, the Executive Director of Invespro Inc.
Aged 55, Kateihwaho’s sudden departure has left a void within the community, sparking conversations about the need for enhanced safety measures within homes.
His contributions to Uganda’s economy, particularly in the realm of Energy Sector, further underscored his significance.
Beyond his business acumen, Kateihwaho’s social prominence, amplified by his former marriage to Rachel Kiconco, daughter of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, added layers to his legacy.
Despite the dissolution of their marriage, the couple shared three children, and Kateihwaho remained actively engaged in both business and political spheres.
As the community grapples with this loss, the focus shifts to preventing similar tragedies. Authorities and safety experts advocate for heightened vigilance and precautionary measures to avert bathroom-related accidents.
Patrick Kateihwaho’s final resting place will be his ancestral home in Mwisi, Kabale district, a testament to his roots and the indelible mark he leaves behind.
