General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Deputy Commander of the Air Force, Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, highlighting his exemplary service and unwavering commitment to Uganda.
General Muhoozi emphasized Brig. Kiggundu’s pivotal role in restoring and upholding peace and security in the country.
The eulogy was presented by Major General Leopold Kyanda during Brig. Gen. Kiggundu’s burial on April 4, 2024, at his ancestral home in Kijambura Cell, Nyangahya Division, Kikwanana Ward, Masindi District.
Brigadier General Kiggundu passed away on March 31, 2024, at his official residence in Entebbe, leaving a void in the ranks of the UPDF.
“Brig. Gen. Kiggundu’s departure deeply saddens the UPDF, losing a seasoned and dedicated officer whose expertise was invaluable. Our thoughts are with his family, relatives, and friends during this challenging period as we bid farewell to our fallen comrade,” expressed Maj. Gen. Kyanda.
He shared with the gathered mourners Brig. Gen. Kiggundu’s illustrious military journey, starting from his enlistment on July 27, 1999. Maj. Gen. Kyanda praised him as an outstanding pilot known for his discipline and commitment to duty. Brig. Gen. Kiggundu was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on May 29, 2002, and served in various capacities until his elevation to Brigadier General in 2022, a position he held until his untimely demise.
Brigadier General David Gonyi, representing the Commander of the Air Force, echoed the sentiments of the army, vowing that Brig. Gen. Kiggundu’s memory will forever be cherished by both the military and his bereaved family.
Dr. Florence Asiimwe , the Masindi District Woman MP, extended her condolences to the family, lauding Brig. Gen. Kiggundu as a diligent individual who exemplified patriotism throughout his life.
As a mark of respect, the late Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu received an 11-gun salute, symbolizing his honorable service to the nation.
The funeral ceremony saw the attendance of high-ranking military officials, representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, clergy, politicians, and other dignitaries, reflecting the widespread impact of Brig. Gen. Kiggundu’s legacy.
