Uganda Police has Saturday afternoon apprehended a social media influencer popularly known as “Pressure 24/7” who is responsible for posting disrespectful content aimed at the Kabaka of Buganda His Highness Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
This Tiktoker reportedly created and disseminated videos containing derogatory remarks about the King, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation from the public.
The incident came to light after several of the offending videos went viral on various social media platforms, drawing sharp criticism and calls for swift action from members of the Buganda community and beyond.
The disrespectful nature of the content prompted an investigation by authorities, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the individual responsible.
The Prime Minister of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has always emphasized the need for responsible use of social media and the importance of upholding cultural respect and reverence for traditional leaders.
He stressed that such actions undermine the mutual respect and harmony that are integral to the cultural fabric of the Buganda kingdom.
The Tiktoker is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to the dissemination of offensive content and disrespect towards a cultural figure.
The case has reignited discussions about the boundaries of free speech and the responsibilities that come with using social media platforms, particularly in relation to cultural sensitivities and traditional institutions.
As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are urging the public to engage with social media in a manner that upholds respect and dignity, while also emphasizing the legal consequences of sharing offensive and disrespectful content.
The apprehension of the individual responsible for the insulting videos serves as a reminder of the power and reach of social media, as well as the importance of using these platforms responsibly and with due regard for cultural sensitivities and traditional values.
