In a continued effort to clean up and streamline operations within the Customs Department at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), the top leadership has initiated another round of reshuffling, affecting 166 warehouse staff deployed in Kampala and neighboring towns.
The changes, effective immediately, were implemented on Monday, January 15, under the direction of Abel Kagumire, the Commissioner Customs.
This latest development follows closely on the heels of a massive fight against corruption and internal bickering that affected efficiency and streamlining operations in ensuring the seamless functioning of the tax body, which had faced challenges posed by unscrupulous individuals in the recent past.
The reshuffling is part of a broader strategy to address issues within URA, aligning with the commitment made by URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujooki to fight corruption.
President Kaguta Museveni has previously acknowledged the need to clean up the organization, referring to certain elements as the “dirty boys” within URA.
As URA continues its efforts to enhance efficiency and integrity, these successive reshuffles underscore the dedication of the leadership to root out any malpractices and maintain a transparent and accountable Customs Department.
