World-class-Venue: Speke Resort Convention Centre opening on 10th January

The facility will host 2 major global events

In a noteworthy revelation on Thursday, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja shed light on the Ugandan government’s decision to collaborate with businessman Sudhir Ruparelia for the construction of the first of it’s kind Convention Centre.

The prime minister attributed the selection to Sudhir’s outstanding performance during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Uganda in 2007.

Nabbanja emphasized Sudhir’s demonstrated capabilities, particularly in the construction and management of the Commonwealth Speke Resort Munyonyo during the 2007 CHOGM event.

This successful endeavor solidified Sudhir as the natural choice for the Convention Centre project.

Nabanja addressed concerns from a section of Ugandans on social media, questioning the criteria for selecting Sudhir to build the state-of-the-art Speke Resort Convention Centre within a record one-year timeframe.

She highlighted Sudhir’s successful track record in leading and executing infrastructure projects, expressing confidence in his ability to bring the Convention Centre project to fruition.

Nabanja explained that after Uganda was nominated to host the global Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) event, India had initially offered to build a Convention Centre. However, due to disruptions caused by COVID-19 India couldn’t and, the government leaders collectively decided to opt for Sudhir, considering his impressive performance in constructing several conference halls for CHOGM.

The facility offers a state-of-the-art venue against the backdrop of the breathtaking Munyonyo landscape on the shores of Lake Victoria.

The Prime Minister revealed that several events would take place on the sidelines of the mega conferences NAM and G77+ China.

Sudhir, who initiated the groundbreaking for the magnificent 3000-seater Speke Resort Convention Centre in January 2023, has successfully delivered the project in record time.

NAM is scheduled to kick off from January 15 to 20, followed by G-77 from January 20 to 23 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The two summits are anticipated to attract more than 5,000 delegates, including 70 heads of state and government, from 120 countries.
