In a medical report released by the Ministry of Health, Molly Katanga, accused of murdering her husband, Henry Katanga, has been found to be alert and not experiencing mental impairment.
The examination, conducted by a committee organized by the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Henry Mwebesa, aimed to assess Ms. Katanga’s fitness to be released from C-Care Hospital in Kampala (IHK) to provide a police statement and appear in court on January 8, 2024, as requested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The committee, composed of medical professionals including Dr. Joel Kiryabwire, Dr. Norbert Orwotho, Dr. Jane Nakibuuka, Dr. Robert Ssentongo, and Dr. Noeline Nakasujja, has detailed Ms. Katanga’s condition in their report.
According to the findings, she sustained significant injuries, including multiple scalp lacerations, fractures in both upper limbs and her ulnar bone, and was in a state of hypovolemic shock with low blood oxygen and unconsciousness.
The report describes Ms. Katanga’s symptoms, noting, “The patient experiences dizziness, aggravated by changes in position… She is managing with Central Vertigo. The headaches she reports are severe and distinct from any previous ones she had experienced.”
Psychiatric evaluation revealed that “Ms. Katanga was found awake and alert, though she has difficulties sleeping.” The report further states that despite being able to sit unaided, Ms. Katanga did not undergo walking tests but reports being able to walk unassisted to the restroom.
The neurological assessment from the CT scan showed subcutaneous edema (excess fluid possibly bleeding in the brain), but the brain parenchyma was normal. The report concludes that while alert and coherent, Molly Katanga is fit to record a police statement but will remain in the hospital bed.
“As per the evaluation today (January 3, 2023), she is alert and coherent, but has dizziness and is distressed about her current situation. She is still undergoing medical treatment. A statement can be obtained from the patient while in the hospital,” adds the report.
Molly has twice evaded Court on grounds that he health remains complicated with multiple body injuries she sustained on November 2, in scuffle that left her conscious and her husband Henry Katanga dead.
Who shot and killed Henry Katanga remains a matter of Court to determine.
