In the aftermath of the shocking attack on pastor Aloysius Bugingo, a prominent religious figure from House of Prayer Ministry, a compelling eyewitness account has emerged from a Boda Boda rider who stood just 20 meters away as the assailants opened fire on the religious leader.
This harrowing narrative sheds light on the intensity and precision of the assault that unfolded on that fateful Tuesday night, January 2, 2024.
The boda boda rider’s account confirms the man of God indeed drove off from the crime scene escaping more harm from the hitman who was armed with a pistol.
The assailant intercepted Bugingo along Namungona , Zone 2 , kasubi Rubaga Division at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road and swiftly escaped the scene while walking unlike Police’s earlier narrative that the hitmen took off using a motorbike.
According to the eyewitness account, a man was dropped off at Buwalaka junction by a motorcycle, in a blink of an eye, Bugingo’s posh vehicle also passed.
“Because I was coming from Kasubi I wanted to drive fast and overtake Bugingo’s car and take the passenger (gunman). I thought he was looking for another motorcycle. I was unable to overtake because it was at night and the cars were many,” reveals the boda boda rider.
According to his detailed recollection, the man who he thought was a passenger, was shocked to see him unleashing a hail of bullets at Pastor Bugingo’s SUV.
“I didn’t know it was Bugingo’s car neither do I know how he looks like. After the incident I heard people say it’s pastor Bugingo,” he said.
This eyewitness said the driver of the car (Bugingo) was lucky because the assailant fired about 11 bullets on the co-driver’s side.
In a statement Police said the car has 12 bullet holes. This website understands that most of the bullets wounded Richard Muhumuza, an SFC soldier and a close confidant of Bugingo who was seated in the driver’s seat. He would later pass on.
The eyewitness vividly describes the chaotic scene, adding that in the midst of the mayhem, pastor Bugingo drove on the pavement facing Kampala and escaped the attack.
Bugingo drove to Mulago hospital where he would be discharged a few hours later after doctors established, he was out of danger.
He got minor injuries on the arm and the back.
The crime scene according to boda boda rider was tampered by revelers who picked the bullet cartridges saying “this is medicine.”
He said he left the scene 30 minutes later and Police had not arrived.
The eyewitness account has become a crucial piece of the ongoing investigation, providing law enforcement with valuable insights into the modus operandi of the assailant and but most importantly shedding light on whether the man of God drove himself to hospital after the attack.
