Molly Bunanukye Katanga, the central figure in the ongoing legal battle of Henry Katanga’s murder has notably been absent from Nakawa Magistrates Court proceedings on Monday despite being served with a criminal summons by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Jane Frances Abado.
The DPP while charging Molly for the murder of her husband ordered that she appears in Court on December 4, however, relatives of the deceased where shocked to learn of Molly’s no-show.
The Criminal Summons against Molly and her daughter Martha Katanga were extended to December 8.
Molly and Martha were charged but exempted from going to Prison on grounds that the former was nursing injuries at IHK while Martha had given birth at a city hospital.
However, as relatives of both Katanga and Molly gathered at Nakawa Court, Molly and her daughter didn’t appear.
The unexplained non-appearance has cast a shadow over the unfolding legal proceedings, leaving both legal experts and the public questioning the circumstances surrounding Molly’s failure to attend.
He presence in Court is expected to mark a crucial juncture in the trial since she is the prime suspect in the murder of her husband who was shot in the head on the morning of November 2 at their house in Mbuya.
Witness accounts suggest that Molly and the deceased picked a quarrel before a loud bang ensued.
Her daughter Tricia who rushed to the bedroom found her father dead and her mother unconscious.
The deceased’s relatives however, rejected he narrative that Molly was found unconscious alleging that she sought sanctuary in the hospital as a way of eluding justice.
The postmortem reports indicated the deceased’s body never had defensive marks.
Henry Katanga’s only surviving Naome Nyangweso held a placard at Court on Monday portraying Molly as a “murderer on the loose, protected by criminals in government.”
Meanwhile Court has further remanded Patricia Kakwanza alias Tricia, George Amanyire and Charles Otai to Luzira prison and will reappear on December 18.
The trio were charged for interfering with the crime scene.
Tricia is accused of destroying evidence after directing the shamba boy Amanyire to clean blood in the house and also inviting doctor Otai to manage the dead body.
