In the wake of a harrowing accusation, Molly Katanga, already grappling with the weight of her husband’s murder charge, finds herself thrust into an even more distressing ordeal.
Fresh details indicate that during her admission to IHK a shocking incident unfolded – Molly’s finger on her right hand was amputated as recommended by doctors after failing to respond to two surgeries.
As Molly whose health details have been scanty remains bedridden, she has Tuesday been charged by the Director of Public Prosecution Her Worship Jane Frances Abodo, along with her two daughter Patricia alias Tricia Katanga and Martha Katanga.
Others on the charge sheet include the shamba boy George Amanyire and family doctor Charles Otai have also been charged as accomplices.
Henry Katanga was shot dead on November 2, inside his house at Mbuya Hill.
Acting on behalf of Molly Katanga, a prominent law firm, Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) has since petitioned the DPP expressing concerns over media reports quoting close family members who have portrayed Molly and her children as responsible for the murder of Mr Katanga.
In a letter dated 21 November released after the DPP had made her pronouncement on the charges preferred against the accused, KAA’s petition points out names including city businessman Barnabas Taremwa who invited High Court to conduct an inquest and went ahead to give media interviews that in KAA’s opinion were hell-bent on linking Molly and her children to incidents that took place on the morning of November 2.
We act for and on behalf of Molly Katanga and her children (Our Clients) on whose instructions we have been asked to write as follows:
As you very well know, Our Clients lost their father/husband on the 2nd November, 2023. On the same day, Molly Katanga was admitted into hospital as a result of several injuries on various parts of her body.
However, since the death of Mr. Henry Katanga our clients have seen a number of newspapers and social media reports that are biased towards portraying a narrative that they are the suspects in the unfortunate death of their father/husband. The media reports are awash with findings that could only be a result of someone assessing the police file. It is therefore on this basis that we have been asked to complain to you about the way this investigation is being conducted.
Our clients have seen several media stories about the death of their father/husband, however one that has stood out was reported in the monitor newspaper of 21 st November, 2023. In the said article made to an inquest application filed by a one Barnabas Taremwa in the High Court. Our clients have also seen a copy of the inquest application that is being referred in the monitor newspaper. The article and the application reveal that the information relied upon has been supplied by Mr. Taremwa accessing the police file.
Some of the information revealed include.
Barnabas alleges that our clients “finger marks” ‘were found on the gun an allegation that he could only have made after either seeing or directing the police forensic/ballistics report.
He describes in detail the post mortem report and lists the doctors who carried out the post-mortem.
Barnabas speaks about the CCTV at our clients premises when the police took the DVR machines where CCTV is recorded. Only police had access to the CCFV machines. It is therefore shocking that Barnabas seems to know that is in the police report regarding the CCTV.
What is clear from the above, is that this is a deliberate smear campaign against our clients. The intention of the perpetrators of this smear campaign is to clearly ensure that our clients do not get justice and that the investigations into this matter are rushed towards making conclusions against our clients.
What is also deliberately left out of all that is said in the above smear campaign, is that Molly Katanga sustained multiple injuries after severe blows to head and several defence wounds on her hands. As a result of which, Molly Katanga has undergone multiple surgeries. Molly Katanga’s hand injuries were so severe that the doctors have amputated one of her fingers on the right hand having tried to save it in 2 previous surgeries.
Given the extent of Molly Katanga’s injuries, it is impossible for one to fathom that she could have been involved in any act that caused her late husbands death.
We know that those trying to portray our clients as criminals have sinister motives and are not seeking justice.
We therefore request that; Any forensics report which was leaked to Mr Taremvva be subjected to a further analysis as the results therefrom cannot be trusted.
That the police surgeon conducts his own detailed medical examination of Molly Katang.
That you recommend an investigation into the leaks by police with a view to determine the persons who are leaking information and their motive.
