Uganda Police acknowledges that the president of National Unity Platform, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has safely returned from his overseas trip.
“Security agencies accompanied him to his residence in Magere, Kasangati. We extend our appreciation to the security agencies for their efforts in maintaining the safety and security of our nation,” Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango said.
Bobi Wine known for his vocal criticism of the current government was earlier Thursday arrested and subsequently taken to his residence by law enforcement authorities on arrival at Entebbe Airport.
Bobi Wine was not allowed to access the immigrations offices but rather picked off the plane on the runway.
The vocal opposition leader was returning from an overseas trip and was on his way home when he was apprehended as his supporters waited anxiously on Entebbe Road.
His political party National Unity Platform (NUP) had announced a mega homecoming 1 million march on the streets on Kampala.
Instead of being taken to a Police station, he was transported to his residence, where he remains in custody at this time.
