President Yoweri Museveni has blamed his opposition counterpart Robert Kyagulanyi for the deaths of 3291 Ugandans who succumbed to Coronavirus in Uganda.
Museveni said the irresponsible conduct and recklessness of Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine while campaigning during 2021 elections, saw the Corona infections soar and subsequently claiming thousands of lives.
The President made the claim while addressing several questions from Bobi Wine’s diehards who wondered why security suspended the principal’s nationwide rallies amid bomb threats and yet allow music concerts.
Museveni said concerts are regulated by security while Bobi Wine conducts the rallies recklessly.
“Then Labisa says that Bobi Wine’s rallies are being stopped while concerts are allowed in spite of the threat of terrorist bombs.
This is an issue of discipline. The concerts are prepared, the areas cordoned off, people entering the venue go through checks, etc. Bobi Wine’s conduct is irresponsible, just like they increased the infection of corona through the same recklessness. That is how we lost 3,291 people. Prior to those reckless rallies, we had lost only about 300 people,” Museveni said.
FULL SPEECH
To all Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu. Thanks for sending me congratulatory messages on my 79th birthday.
I thank Maama Janet and the children for sending me congratulatory messages. I thank Maama for looking after us – the children and myself for the last 50years.
I thank the Ugandans whose messages I have seen.
These are people like: Fine Miracle, Kangumemu, Bushara, Amanda, Kanduho, The New Times (Uganda), Zasha, Abubakari, Godslastborn, Saab, Bigirwa(musitakati from Bunyoro), Kisoro District, Nakiganda, Kankinda Amosi (munya Rwampara), Ochan John, Hudu Hussein, Upper Room Africa, Kiwalazimichaelkasani, Ahmed Kateregga, Bagonza, Clinton the boatman, Eng Gilberto, Kaguta Foundation, Kayera Janipher, Kangwagye Steven, Mathew Ociti, Abaho Badru, Wilica, Nyombi Phillip, Joshua Nyamgero, Mutesi Alex, Turyamureeba, Apinassa, Tandeka Omurarra, Dowhish, Aunt Sunshine, Zymjurist, Omujugujugu, Hussein Kashillingi, Trill UG, Tora, Kamukama Freddie, Ankunda Barbara, Besi Andrew, Eva Kanyena, Ndiyo Jackson, Pamela Ankunda, Ssenninde Children, Amanda Maxin, Owomuheendo, Penelope Ssempebwa, Ruhima Jonah, Nuweneinshe, Akello Jane, Wycliff East, Kizito Alysha, Donald K, Nabimanya, Male Solomon, Channel Kemi, Katuramu N’Omwesigwa, Edgar Wills, Kivumbi, Nagawa, Yellow Brigade, Kiiza Maggie, Kagweza, Balagadde, Baryamujura, Ssenabulya, Nbryanz, Kamurari, Mutalya, Kabuchu, Paul Owor, Kiwanuka, Saka Nobert, Bakashaba and many others.
Thanks so much for sending me congratulatory messages. By coincidence, yesterday the 17th of September, 1972, was the very day when we suffered a defeat at Mbarara and Masaka.
Tito Okello and Oyite Ojok were on the Masaka side and I was on the Mbarara side with Oyile, Okot, Okumu, Goli and others. See the terrible picture below of the dead bodies: Consequence of bad planning and organization. 1978-79 and 1985-86, we were better organized.
I have noted the hostile messages from: Nsubuga Bart, UK official, People P and Kaziba. Nsubuga wondered why I still talk about wealth creation having depended on the national purse for 40years.
Ndugu Nsubuga, the two pieces of muhogo (otushate), some peas, some kalo, 2 two hundred grammes of meat three times in a week and 3 cups of milk coffee in a day, plus the little amounts of food Maama takes each day, can all be easily got from our farms at Ntungamo, Rwakyitura, Kisozi, etc. Nobody in my family ever worked for the government, until 1965 when I worked as a licensed teacher at Bweranyangyi Senior Secondary school, the year it started.
In the last 63 years in which I have been involved in African Resistance, I have got very little personal benefit that I could not get privately provided there was peace in Uganda. The wealth I have is based on modernized obujajja wealth. This is what I commend to the Ugandans and the Bazzukulu.
That was the main point about the message that accompanied my picture with Muhoozi at Kisozi with the Akareemba herd in the background. We are very proud of that heritage and its modernized form.
In the world many countries are crying for food because of the wars in Europe. Here in Uganda, we have our own muhogo, millet, maize, beef, milk, sugar, fruits, etc., etc. The only issue to address is for the homesteads that are not growing their own food, having money to buy the food they need.
Paul Kaziba was not hostile but was saying that at my age, I should be concentrating on personal issues. This assumes that the nonpersonal issues are resolved. Some of the non-personal issues that affect our very survival: value addition and not raw materials; integration of Africa, including the East African Federation; terrorism caused by ideological bankruptcy like those who were trying to plant bombs in Kampala recently; etc.
Kaziba is suggesting that I should be a deserter and abandon the unfinished work, when, moreover, the likes of Kaziba themselves may be spending all the time talking about pleasure and relaxation – music, sports, theatre. What would assure we the old fighters would be if the Kazibas were, through music and drama and social media, addressing these survival issues.
The UK group, talking about the NRA taking the cattle of Buganda, Acholi, Lango, Teso, etc., is a falsehood. The cattle in Buganda were eaten by UNLA (remember, UK group). What we took by agreement with the owners from them, we paid back. The cattle in the Lango and Acholi were eaten by the LRA (Kony). The cattle of the Teso were eaten by the Karimojong rustlers.
We are now compensating the people affected because we happen to be the government in charge of 3 the country. As to dictatorship, the Uganda version must be the best form where elections are held regularly, where groups that are not represented in the UK such as women, youth, disabled, the elderly, the workers, the soldiers, etc., have special seats in Parliament and in district councils.
Then Labisa says that Bobi Wine’s rallies are being stopped while concerts are allowed in spite of the threat of terrorist bombs.
This is an issue of discipline. The concerts are prepared, the areas cordoned off, people entering the venue go through checks, etc. Bobi Wine’s conduct is irresponsible, just like they increased the infection of corona through the same recklessness. That is how we lost 3,291 people. Prior to those reckless rallies, we had lost only about 300people.
