The IGG has ordered for the arrest of National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Executive Director (ED) David Livingstone Ebiru over corruption.
The deputy Inspectorate of Government IG) Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe confirmed the arrest warrant following Ebiru’s failure to honour the IGG’s summons.
“Whereas Mr David Livingstone Ebiru was ordered to appear before the Inspectorate of Government at 2.00PM on July 21, 2023, and subsequent days to testify what he knew and or to furnish information about the above-stated inquiry, he has not appeared and has not furnished any information,” the arrest warrant reads.
“Now, therefore, you are hereby this warrant ordered to apprehend, bring or have the said David Livingstone Ebiru and brought before the Inspectorate of Government.”
Ebiru confessed before the Parliament’s Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) last week that he had issued Shs100 million to the National Standards Council (NSC) as a bribe to retain his job.
In the same week he retracted the statement saying he made the statement out of anger.
COSASE Chairperson Joel Ssenyonyi however, said the excuse of retracting the statement wouldn’t save him.
Police was ordered to arrest Ebiru on the misappropriation of shs 12.5 billion and also shielded five staff under his watch who are said to have caused a financial loss of shs 9.28 billion.
Meanwhile the NCS leadership has since appointed Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama as the Acting Executive Director of the UNBS.
Makayi was the Deputy ED in charge of Management and Financial Services.
