Col Edith Nakalema has been appointed the head of the State House investors protectorate unit by President Yoweri Museveni.
The newly created unit will protect investors against corrupt Ugandans who seek bribes and harass these foreigners who don’t comply with their demands.
In the end the frustrated investors return to their countries and Uganda loses opportunities of development.
President Museveni on many occasions has hinted and warned those harassing investors that their time is over.
As Uganda recovers from COVID-19, Museveni has been all over the world inviting investors to utilize opportunity of investing their money in Uganda, assuring them of huge returns since Uganda has all favorable factors including cheap labour, raw materials, good climate and hospital citizens.
Col Nakalema, before she was sent on a one-year training at the newly established National Defence College in Jinja District at the end of 2021, had been heading the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
President Museveni had on several occasions praised Col Nakalema for her fight against corruption.
According to State House Anti-Corruption Unit data, they were able to save more than Shs30b of government money from being stolen since they started work.
More than 200 government officials involved in corruption were interdicted.
In April 2021, President Museveni promoted Col Nakalema from Lt Colonel three years after completing a higher command and staff course at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, in Watchfield, Oxfordshire, UK.
