President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is considering appointing Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a Minister.
Highly impeccable sources privy to the imminent cabinet reshuffle told this website on condition they remain unnamed that, Muhoozi is likely to occupy a top position in Defence or Office of the Prime Minister, “because those two Ministries are grappling with deep- rooted corruption,” added a source.
Last year, Museveni who described Muhoozi as “avenger” told a section of Members of Parliament that his son is very impatient with corruption unlike him (Museveni) who has been lenient with unscrupulous government officials.
The vice is considered a major setback in the NRM government.
Museveni in a separate occasion last year, warned the Inspectorate of Government (IG) Betty Kamya, that it would be dangerous to implement lifestyle audit because the corrupt officials would “take the money out of Uganda.”
Presently, the whole country is waiting for the President’s action against his top administrators who were implicated in theft, diversion, sale and distribution of iron sheets meant for vulnerable Karamojongs.
Sor far, three Ministers have paid a price while others await their fate, including the Prime Minister, Vice President and Speaker of Parliament.
Earlier, Museveni directed that Ministers who knowingly took the iron sheets should be arrested while those who did unknowingly pay money of equal value.
The President further threatened to take a political action after prosecution had played its part.
A separate source in State House said the arrests made were fueled by Muhoozi who loathes corruption deep from his heart.
In a tweet, the 5-star military officer indicated, that iron sheet thieves should lose their positions in government.
Last year he expressed his discontent saying the ruling establishment is “full of corruption and is completely detached from the common people.”
The First Son wields political support among the youth who are the majority voters of the nation.
They have asked him to contest in 2026 for President.
Sources said Muhoozi is likely to occupy OPM or Defence because his past exhibition in weeding out corruption and streamlining the UPDF establishment when he served as Commander of Land Forces was unmatched.
He influenced the salary increment of soldiers and also “cleaned” the army head offices at Mbuya and Bombo Barracks.
The OPM is now considered ‘dirtiest’ among all institutions of government.
In most of his speeches Muhoozi advocates for service delivery from top to bottom, and those he has closely worked with describe him as straight, reliable, hands on and honest and prayerful.
If appointed in cabinet, Muhoozi popularly known as MK will not be the first serving military officer to occupy a political office.
Gen David Muhoozi a former CDF is the State Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Edward Katumba whom Muhoozi succeeded in the army is the Minister of Works and Transport while Gen Aronda Nyakairima (deceased) whom Katumba replaced as army commander served as Minister of Internal Affairs.
The UPDF establishment also has 9 representatives in Parliament who take part in political decisions.
