Ageing Finance Minister whose file on theft of Karamoja iron sheets has been completed, counts on Prime Minister Robina Nabanja- who is also a suspect- for protection against going to prison.
Hon Matia Kasaija, this website has established stormed the Premier’s office very Thursday (today) morning imploring her to use her influence to ensure he doesn’t sleep in Luzira.
Kasaija, 78, told Hon Nabanja that it would be disastrous if he goes to jail considering his old age, predicting his health is likely to worsen.
On Wednesday panicky Kasaija returned the iron sheets to Office of the Prime Minister store in Namanve.
Source privy to the meeting told this website that Kasaija told Nabanja that he got wind of information that he is among the 6 ministers whose files have been completed and now awaiting to be sanctioned by the DPP for a possible arrest.
Trembling like a leaf falling off a tree, Kasaija revealed to the Premier that President Museveni who has been his biggest defender has since snubbed his calls, “it is now you and only you who can save me,” he is quoted to have implored Nabanja.
Kasaija arrogantly told an investigative committee of Parliament that he found the iron sheets in his compound, while making fun of investigation.
The beleaguered Minister also told Nabanja that he anticipated the NRM caucus summoned by the President (on going by press time) would pile more pressure on his exit from cabinet.
Sources wondered that at 78, what would Minister Kasaija still want to achieve from public service that he has not done in all the years he has worked for government.
Surprisingly Kasaija is seeking sanctuary from a burning house, as the Prime Minister is also a suspect of the same crime.
Three Ministers have so far been imprisoned over the matter, Goretti Kututu, Amos Lugolobi and Agness Nandutu.
The public however, is daring Police and the DPP to go for the big fish including the Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, Finance Minister and many others.
