Exclusive: Proprietor of Seroma school Defaults shs.90bn Tax

Col Robert Bell Sekidde the founder of Seroma School

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has issued a one week ultimatum to Robert Bell Sekidde, the managing director of Seroma Limited to clear VAT arrears of shs 90 billion.

In a letter dated March 7, URA’s manager debt collection Stanley Kabyarema warned the businessman that should he not adhere to the notice, a stern action would be taken against him.

“Reference is made to your request to pay taxes in instalments that was considered and an installment schedule communicated to you.

We note with concern that despite several reminders, you have not turned up to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU),” reads a letter this website obtained.

“Further note that as at 7th March, your outstanding tax liability as per your tax ledger is Ugx. 90,982,015,360/= (Ninety Billion Nine Hundred Eighty Two Million Fifteen Thousand Three Hundred Sixty Shillings).”

Seroma Limited deals in construction, education and transportation. The company runs a popular school in Mukono district, Seroma Christian High School.

“You are therefore advised to settle the entire amount in arrears within 7 days from the receipt of this notice,” URA’s notice further reads.

“Failure to honor this demand by the above stated date will leave us with no option but to enforce against you at your own cost and unnecessary embarrassment without any further notice.”

By press time, 10 days after issuance of the letter, this website was unable to ascertain if the businessman had complied with URA or not.
