Beleaguered Kampala Lord Mayor Hon Erias Lukwago has attributed his woes to a fight he launched against mafia that is hell-bent on plundering Kampala Capital City Authority resources.
Lukwago has for long been evading to respond to a letter purportedly written by Gen Salim Saleh demanding for an apology from the Lord Mayor or he freezes support he has been offering.
Saleh was infuriated by Lukwago’s wild allegations that he wields a lot of power which he abuses by orchestrating an opposition witch-hunt and torment while using taxpayer’s money.
But Lukwago describes the note as “ a chit from the gutter” aimed at discrediting his political career.
Speaking with annoyance, Lukwago, before cameras maintained he has never met Gen Saleh.
“I have never met Gen Museveni, I have never met Muhoozi, I have never met or shaken hands with Gen Saleh,” he said on NBSTV on Monday morning.
Whereas Saleh has never come out to confirm he is the author of the letter which has been circulating online, his close associate Kabuye Kyofatogabye, the Minister for Kampala said it is true Gen Saleh wrote the strong worded missive.
Lukwago however, describes the Minister as loose mouthed spokesperson of the cartel.
“Let me tell you the origin of my problems. It is my charisma to fight the cartel in KCCA, that is why you are seeing those letters from the gutter,” he said.
With documents to support his submissions the Lord Mayor said the cartel is moving fast to buy 10 acres of land in Kisenyi to resettle vendors at shs 370 billion, a figure that is inflated over 100 times.
He wondered how the same land at Owino market was purchased at only shs 4 billion.
He further alleged that the cartel which is tainting his name with ‘fake chits’ has eaten all the money meant to refurbish city roads by inflating the cost of a kilometer from shs 4 billion to 15 billion.
He vowed to die fighting the corrupt cabal, whose leader is well known but represented by Minister Kyofatogabye.
