As NRM historicals spearheaded by retired General Kahinda Otafiire continue to harangue Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, his supporters are relentless, determined to see “their generational leader” in power as President.
The writing is on the wall that the youth of Uganda clearly prefer Muhoozi, a four star military General who has served in many capacities in UPDF as the successor of his father- General Yoweri Museveni.
On the contrary, a clique of ageing military generals who think should have a say in succession discourse, feel threatened by the wave Muhoozi has created using a pretext that he is a serving soldier and therefore should not participate in partisan politics.
Mid last year the youth of Bunyoro region unequivocally told President Museveni that he should retire Muhoozi from UPDF to allow him build his political career. They branded him “standby generator.”
The threatened old generals have instead downplayed the standby generator narrative labelling it dysfunctional insisting that Museveni is still fit to lead the country.
Against that backdrop the two generals (Otafiire and Muhoozi) have since exchanged a veiled pack of outbursts with MK as he is popularly known making it open that the old guard needs to leave and the time is up.
Otafiire on the hand maintains the “tired statement” of “we went to the bush and shed blood for you people.”
Unrelenting supporters of Muhoozi belonging to a bloc, MK Army have since have since launched their operations in Tooro and Rwenzori regions.
On Thursday afternoon the coordinators of the group convened at at Lilly’ paradise Fort Portal Tourism city in raptures
National coordinator Donald kairu Businge in his opening remarks introduced Hon Alex Ruhunda the Central Division legislator and chairperson Rwenzori parliamentary caucus as the Regional patron/chief coordinator of MK army Tooro/Rwenzori
Businge assured members that their aim is Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba becoming President of Uganda in 2026 and nothing else
Mathew Koojo Apuuli the regional coordinator assured members that they are NRM and have no problem with NRM party urging that he even intends to stand on NRM chairperson Kabarole district when time comes
Mathew also appreciated Owek Henry Basaliza Mutegeki Araali for giving them a free venue, lunch & drinks for the launch.
Meanwhile, Hon Alex Ruhunda applauded team MK for loving their country urging that it’s the team that holds the future of Uganda ranting on Gen Otafiire that their future ended and he should be aware of transition.
The meeting was attended by District coordinators of the 11 districts that make up Tooro and Rwenzori regions.
