The Electoral Commission (EC) has vacated Jinja Road based offices.
The Commission notified its workers that today 13th December 2022, is the last day of occupancy to pave way for continued construction of Kampala flyover project which kicked off in 2019.
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) which oversees the project had several times complained that the project delayed because EC had failed to shift, which was costing government shs 300m daily.
In 2019, UNRA paid EC shs 22 billion as compensation and facilitating the quick process of vacating the Jinja Road premises.
EC management- then- said it needed over shs 83 billion for new offices.
Efforts to reach EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya for a comment were futile by press time, but a top official who wished to remain unnamed so as to speak freely said the commission will shift to National Housing building at 7th Street temporarily.
“We shall be there as we wait for National Housing to complete our offices,” he said.
He said the process of moving to new premises will take two weeks.
